Cafe R&B, an amazing band and long time friends. With a passion for gritty, hard-hitting early blues and R&B, their live performances are both incendiary and legendary. These photos below are from an afternoon in the late 90’s on location at Fais Do-Do in Los Angeles, a favorite location back in those days.  The photo below was featured on their CD Black & White.

“Imagine Etta James riding a Harley out of an active volcano, and you’ll have some vague inkling as to the vocal power emanating from ‘Roach’, the front woman of L.A. blues and groove unit Cafe R&B.” ~ HITS magazine

Throngs of women flock to their shows to dance and revel in Roach’s amazing performances. Her freedom of expression has an amazing liberating effect on her fans which I have witnessed time and again.

Their producer and Roach’s husband, Byl Carruthers, does amazing guitar work and writes the band’s original material….and sometimes helps out with wardrobe 🙂

Celebrating 25 years of marriage this week, Roach and Byl have an amazing relationship making and playing music together and are parents of a wonderful son Jazz. Happy Anniversary you guys!!! Love you!!

Although having a boudoir photo shoot wasn’t on my friend Deb’s list of things to do while we were in Paris together, she indulged me one morning and posed for me in our lovely little apartment in the Marais. Knowing her as I do, I enticed her with a box of pastries to make the posing more pleasurable!

It was Easter time, or Pacques, and les choix des delices were even more plentiful than usual…each tarte a work of art

Yum Yum et en fin bon!!! Merci Mademoiselle Deb, tu est tres belle comme toujours XO

  • Tiara - Your images, as always, show your subject’s inner divinity. Can’t wait to share Paris adventures with you!!ReplyCancel

Meet Leah, my adorable and whip smart photo assistant.

Inspired by Leah’s love of her vintage Vespa, the Green Monster, and her Italian heritage, we came up with the idea to do a style shoot in front of Arnoldi’s, a classic old school Santa Barbara establishment. When she told me that she had never done any engagement photos, we decided to get her husband involved.

Leah and Zach met 11 years ago at college. They have been married 5 years and recently relocated to Santa Barbara for Zach’s work.  Zach, like many men, was not really excited about being photographed, but he was willing to do it for Leah…what a good sport!

Knowing they are huge South Park fans, I encouraged them to crack each other up and soon they were drinking chianti, looking into each other’s eyes and forgetting I was there!

I love Leah’s connection to her family heritage. This shawl was a gift from her mom, a treasure she had bought in Europe in the 60’s. She is wearing her grandmother’s ring and her mom’s pearls.

What makes these pictures so endearing to me is the joy, and the playfulness,  that they so obviously share with each other.

11 years later and still looking like newlyweds! Way to go, you guys…thanks for setting a good example for the rest of us 🙂

lil’ green monster!

When I arrived from Paris with this vintage bustier find, I knew who would be the perfect person to rock it.

I have been photographing the gorgeous ‘Yvette’ over the past 20 years. Always that extra saucy combo of Beauty and Brains, she  is currently at work on a highly secret mission that cannot be disclosed at this time. Appearing here under anonymity to protect the innocent, we are grateful to have been graced with her exotic good looks and to spend another day playing dress up.
