‘Midwest of Heaven: Snapshots of a friendship’ is a collection of photographs documenting the years between 1983–1987, a special time during which my friend John Jacobus and I were each other’s muses. John gave me his images shortly before he died of AIDS in 1994. I’ve combined them with my own and those of a few friends.
Edited by Stephen Male, one of the style makers behind ID Mag, the images are presented in their original formats, identifying and emphasizing them as real and time-sensitive ‘objects’ — color prints, B/W Polaroids and SX-70s — to create something beyond a simple visual representation of our relationship or a bygone era – more like a nostalgic dreamscape.
I will be posting some pages from the book soon – If you are interested in seeing more of this project, contact me
